As an alternative to glasses and refractive surgery, contact lenses are a great method for optically correcting myopia (nearsighted), hyperopia (farsighted), and presbyopia (need for bifocals). Following a comprehensive eye examination, our optometrist will determine if you are a candidate for contact lenses and recommend the appropriate lens based on your lifestyle and visual needs. If you are seeking a Wyomissing contact lens provider or place to buy contact lenses in Berks County please feel free to contact us asap.
How Contact Lenses Work
A contact lens is a medical device placed onto the front part of your eye, called the cornea; it interacts with both the inner tissue of your eyelid and your tears. Because the FDA considers contact lenses to be a medical device, they can only be dispensed by prescription. In 2004, a law was passed that set the expiration date of contact lens prescriptions at 1 year.
At Berks Eye, we prescribe various types of contact lenses to correct for myopia/hyperopia, astigmatism, presbyopia (multifocals), keratoconus, aphakia, and certain corneal disorders or injuries including:
- Soft Contact Lenses (Daily, Bi-Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly, and Yearly)
- Gas Permeable Contact Lenses
- Corneal Refractive Therapy (Paragon CRT)
- Colored Contact Lenses
- Therapeutic Contact Lenses
